Pain is an ally
With whom he holds deep ties
He does not feel it, Pain dare not inflict it
Cries, he shall always know it
When one is hurt, he tries to hide it
But I felt it

Crimson is a color
That he is well acquainted
He sees it more than most, by his hands he creates it
Blood, so often felt beneath his fingertips
When a voice is silenced, he tries to hide it
But I heard it

Souls are a collectible
Which he must gather
He knows what others don't, reasons behind his discovery
Suicide, the hardest ones to handle
When the souls are broken, he tries to hide it
But I sensed it

Sorrow is an emotion
With it he knows best
He feels deeper than they thought, the anger in his voice hiding
Tears, never seen by more than a mirror
When he must take away, he tries to hide it
But I saw it

Death is his name
An identity he must now go by
He hurts more than believed, the truth he cannot face
Guilt, he feels when he remembers
When he ended it, he tried to hide it
But I witnessed it

When he ended the dream...
Trying to hide the tears, the pain
The truth in his duty, pointing at me
He cannot stand it
Grasping his scythe, he refuses to use it
For he knows it is me he must take

He tried to hide it all
But in his eyes, I saw it first
Death had expired, leaving his job behind
His heart, Death's darkness a plague
Infection through his memories
The never ending guilt as I watched him walk away...

Written for Ethan, another dear friend of mine. His eyes and emotions were always so cold, cold as Death's very presence. I haven't seen him in 2 years, but the last time I got a glimpse of his eyes, I could see a sort of pain and guilt that I had never seen from him before. He always told me that after he died, he would be the next person to take over Death's throne, to hold the scythe of reaping in his hands. Ethan... I saw it... The blackness of Death was taking over your heart. Like a virus, the infection would soon take over you...
