Standing with a number taped to my chest
on the auction block, as the sheep line up
to bid on the remains of a compromise.

the lengths i've gone to appease them,
they'll never truly know.
it was never my heart's intention,
and it makes my stomach twist.
my head betrayed me,
and my hand followed.

i raise my head and look out into the crowd,
and notice all the vacant color coded chairs.
some pink, some blue, and others simply gold...

the turkey man gobbles off numbers in a frenzy,
but no sheep feet come up,
it's more than obvious,
that there will be no sale today,
unless the blue light special arrives.

so i walk off the stage,
and follow all the exit signs-
straight to the doorway, standing confused i debate,
whether or not i should stay
in this place that makes me feel so unattractive-
where i feel so isolated, abandoned and alone-
or if i should just walk through the door,
and leave this building for good.
