Since I was born, you've been an inspiration in my life
Often more than not, you have caught me when I'd fall
Many times there have been where you amaze me
Underestimating the true power you hold over people
Caring nature, obvious love exudes your being
How much I wish to grow up in your footsteps.
Like all fathers should be, you've held me so close
In time, you let me spread my own wings to fly
Keeping me at a close distance, giving me freedom
Even though we all know it had to be frightening
My, oh my, you've no idea the closeness I feel
Yet somehow, there has to be a way you understand.
For time will only tell what I'll wind up becoming,
And knowing I had a good leader assures me well
Thank you for everything, it's meant so much
How can you express any unconditional love?
Express any sort of true gratitude that I feel?
Reaching my years, knowing I will understand.
